Diwali

Diwali is a festival of lights. There are many stories behind the celebration of Diwali festival.
One of the main story is killing of "Narakasura" the devil. Narakasura was a devil and he used to torture the rushi's and goddesses. Unable to bare his torture all the rushi's and goddesses went to Lord Krishna and prayed to save them.

Sri krishna and Satyabhama went for fight with Narakasura. Satyabhama killed Narakasura. To mark this auspicious day Hindus are celebrating Diwali festival. Diwali means a series of ignited diyas. People will decorate their houses with lights and diyas.

Another reason for celebrating Diwali is Lord Rama came to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and won a war against Ravana. To mark this auspicious day people celebrated Diwali by lighting ghee diyas.

Diwali is most important festival for Business community. The word Dhanteras mean wealth and worship of wealth is most important for Business people. All the merchants will white wash or paint their shops with paint. On the day of Diwali they will do lakshmi pooja. Marriage in Marathi people.

Being a guy belonging to maratha community. I know marriages are like great celebrations or festivals in our community.

We will white wash or paint our home. Perform Satyanarayan swami puja. It is a sacred puja where all the members of the home will perform puja. A pandit will perform the puja and tell the story of Satyanarayana swami. After puja prasad followed by lunch session will be there.

The next day we will do "Gondal". A puja of durga maa. The puja will be performed during night and a story of durga mata will be chanted by the "Gondhali". The puja will be performed whole night and diva will be lighted for whole night. In the morning arthi will be given. A dinner session will also be conducted during night.

Haldi function will be conducted where the people from bride's home will go to the bridegroom's home and play haldi. Similarly bridegroom's relatives will go to the bride's home. Haldi means turmeric powder.

The same things will be performed in bride's home. On the day of marriage a barat procession will take place. The bridegroom will sit on the horse and will go to the marriage function hall where marriage is conducted. In barat we dance and enjoy. In marriage the pandit will chant all the mantra's of marriage and atlast the bridegroom will tie the mangal sutra to the bride.

On the next day there will be a reception arranged by bridegroom's father. In that there will be music and dinner session will be there.

Like this we will perform marriage.

India

India is a country where multiple diversity people live. Every body loves the culture and tradition of India. India is known for many great epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata and etc etc. India is the birth place for great rivers like Ganga and Yamuna.

Most of the foreigner's love India because of it's culture and tradition. In india marriages are like celebrations. In olden days there was a tradition of swayamvara where different kings used to attend to show their bravery and marry the princess.

What is Swayamvara?
If a king has a daughter and he wanted to do her marriage. Then he needs to invite all the kings of his surroundings for swayamvara. Swayamvara means conducting a competition or asking to show their skills in bravery by which the princess father or princess used to choose her spouse.
For example in mahabharata Arjuna showed his skill of archery by shooting the arrow in the eye of a fish and married Dhropadi.

But in today's generation there are marriage bureaucracies, matrimonials, news papers, Inernet websites and media which are conducting the work of finding matches. Frankly speaking now- a- days marriage is like a business. It has totally became commercial. The girl's father has to give dowry to the bridegroom's father for the sake of marriage.

Dowry means giving money, property, valuable things like gold in the auspicious ceremony of marriage.
